Yesterday, I got my new printer and the iPod. But still no printer cable (need a separate USB cable to hook up the printer), no additional memory for the printer (if you’ve ever printed a fairly complex page, you can appreciate the advantages of additional printer memory), or the new computer to hook it all up to (due to ship before September 30). The USB cable and the printer memory arrived today. So what can I do with all this? I can try to hook up the new printer, but that will take some equipment moving, like the old printer, and finding a place to put it. The room’s getting a bit deep with stuff; maybe I’ll have to get a Web cam once I get the new computer.

Just because I live here, doesn’t mean I want to watch this drivel. Half the office was talking about it today. “Did you see it?” was the question of the day. The funny thing I heard about was how clean MTV presented Philly – no grit, no grime, no homeless people in the train stations, no traffic on the highways. And they may have even boosted some of the colors to make the city look better. Granted, all the politicos and glad-handing region boosters will say this is a good thing, but I disagree. Why? If MTV paints such a rosy picture, what will happen when people get here and find out it’s just not true? Will they think the city went to hell overnight? (If the Eagles win the Super Bowl, that will be an option.)

Dick Cheney frightens me. Seriously. With Dubya being a literal heartbeat away from having real power in the White House, you should be scared too. But my fear has crystallized into written form; see this article in Rolling Stone. The main thrust of the article, if you choose not to read it, is that Dick Cheney has a “death touch” – he manages to screw up everything he touches. And apparently, has had this wonderful skill for over 40 years.

One plea to the Democrats: please, please, please hammer this bozo on his Vietnam draft deferments. He did everything possible to get a deferment. Not that others didn’t, but since you’re arguing about John Kerry’s service in Vietnam, at least make it from a position of authority. Like you were actually there.
