Enough with the reality TV!

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

Having seen ads for “American Idol” and “Ice Skating with the Stars” (or whatever Fox is calling it), I now believe that reality TV has finally jumped the shark (or jumped the couch, if you prefer). Are we so unbelieveably bored with our own lives that we would want to watch C-list “celebrities” learn how to ice skate? I still never understood the whole “Star Dancing” thing. Who really wants to watch this crap?

I will admit to having watched the first “Joe Millionaire”, but only because Fox decided to be so snarky about it. Of course it helped that the guy was a complete moron, but I digress. I also watched “Average Joe” for the same reason. At least those shows (in their first go-arounds) has the temerity (also known as “guts” or “balls”) do try to drop the genre on its head. I guess that wasn’t enough.

As long as I don’t have to suffer for ads for those shows while watching the new season of 24, I’ll be happy.

Some highly addictive Flash games

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

If you haven’t played any Flash games yet, you’ve been missing out on some cool stuff. I have recently come across three of them that are quite addictive. This site has a list of several particularly entertaining ones; I have not checked them all out yet.

  1. The Amazing Dare-Dozen. (Play it here.) A simple, yet very addictive game in which the object is to toss eggs into higher levels of baskets. Sounds simple, but it’s not. Suggested improvement: change the sound when you miss to a splatter.
  2. Bow Man. (Play it here.) For the inner Ted Nugent in you. A somewhat twisted version of the very old “Human Cannonball” game from the Atari 2600. The object is to shoot your opponent with arrows. But only shots above the waist count. There is a bit of gore, but this is hilarious. If the game’s designer happens to find this blog entry, please contact me as I would like to suggest a whole host of “upgrades” for Version 2.0.
  3. Mini Jump. (Play it here.) Very funny take on the “Track and Field” classic arcade game. But instead of long jumping, you have to jump into a BMW Mini. It’s not easy.
