Little miss enjoying today’s blizzard.

Yay! Another weekend blizzard! OK, while it may not technically be a blizzard, about 2 feet of snow and lots of wind is pretty close for me.
A picture from out our front window, looking towards the neighbors.

And since we’re stuck inside, we’re looking for things to do, short of going all Donner Party and cannibalizing each other. So Caroline played ballerina.

And she’s sleeping peacefully at the moment, along with Daisy (the dog, in case you forgot). The weird way the wind has been blowing has dropped only about 2 inches of snow on the sidewalk near the mulch where Daisy does her business. Of course, there’s about 2 feet of snow in the mulch, so the sidewalk will have to do for now.
Just finished playing some Wii Sports with Victoria. She kicked my butt in tennis, baseball was a draw, golf was close, and I actually won bowling (thought she was going to fling the remote through the TV while bowling).
It looks like it might have finally stopped snowing (around 3:15pm). The plow is supposed to come through around 5:00; I’ll see what else I’ll need to clear away after they’re through. The driveway in the picture above is a private driveway and not a city street, so we have to pay to get it plowed. But since a city plow won’t likely visit my neighborhood at all, I really don’t mind.
At least that’s how Miss Caroline indicates to us that she’s ready to light the Hanukkah candles, when she sees them lined up in the menorah ready to go. And she still says “Happy birthday!” after the candles are lit, but she’s not even two. It’s cute.
Karen took Caroline to see Santa Claus today (yes, we’re a multi-culti household). Great picture of her crying on Santa’s lap. Too bad we don’t have the digital image…
Aah, that timeless children’s classic “Brown Spots on the Wall.”
This week, brought to you by Miss Caroline. Skeeved Karen out immensely, since she had to deal with it directly. During a nap on Monday, Caroline decided to stick her hands into her diaper and rub poo everywhere. Yes, that is truly gross. And if I wasn’t at work, I would have cleaned it up (despite what Karen might tell you).
But on a more positive note, she can count to 10 and has finally started saying her name. The joys of parenting.
This has been a long day. Got up at 4:45am; needed to shower and leave at 5:45 to be at the hospital by 6:15. We got to surgery admission right around 6:15. We had to wait about 10 minutes, then they took us to an examining room. Where we waited for about two hours, although they did some initial work (check vitals, administer the “giggle juice” (pre-anesthetic), etc.)
A picture of Caroline, pre-surgery:

She was in surgery for about an hour. The doctor came out and told us that everything went fine. We had to wait about another 10 minutes before we were called back to recovery, where Caroline was crying her head off. She doesn’t normally do that. It took a while for her to calm down. The nurses said it was a combination of the anesthetic drugs she had and that she was coming off them at different times. Add in some disorientation and pain, and you get lots of crying. She slept for about half an hour and Karen decided that we should bring her home. After a final vital sign check, we left and got home around 12:30pm.
Here’s a picture, post-surgery:

And it has hit an ear-piercing tone and decibel level! Not bad for a 10 month old.
It’s cute for about two seconds until it sinks in that it’s a continuous high-pitched scream. For no reason in particular. I really think she likes the sound of her voice. Which is fine. Not much fun when we’re out in public though. It’s more of an “I’m happy but a little bored and want attention” kind of scream than a “ouch” kind of scream.
She was very well behaved at dinner last night (our annual treat to ourselves, this year at The Capital Grille).
Also today, she tore a page out of one of her books for the first time. I would have liked to have read it to her first, but Karen beat me to it.
