Veterans' Stadium ImplosionMarch 21, 2004 (Philadelphia, PA) First off, I apologize for the lousy appearance of this page. It will change in time, but in order to get this stuff up relatively quickly, I decided to forego the fancy, and deal with the practical instead. That aside, I ran from my apartment in Center City down to the stadium complex (about 3 miles one way) to watch the implosion. I mean, how many times to you get to see a building imploded? Anyway, there were thousands of people down there, many more than I had anticipated. And of course, the spot I wanted to go to was the spot that everyone wanted to go to. So the following pictures and movie were taken from the westbound lanes of I-76, just to the north of the Vet. Now for the pictures. Again, an apology is in order, as I have not prepared any thumbnails, nor have I attempted to crop or otherwise reduce the file size. I'll get to that soon (whenever that'll be). So I'll just provide links to the stuff here. Again, sorry. Pre-implosion (4 pictures): Picture 3 This is a shot of the new baseball-only stadium, Citizens Bank Park (CBP), located right next door. Implosion movie (3 minutes, about 48MB). BTW, one bit of the audio is worth noting. Once the stadium begins to fall, the apparently inebriated guys next to me were saying "Stay up! Stay up!" Post-implosion (11 pictures): Picture 2 Dust cloud over CBP. Picture 7 The Spectrum in the background. Picture 9 CBP after the dust cloud has mostly dissipated. |
